Work From Home As a Call Center Agent

Boris No Comments »
With fuel prices soaring, more and more people are asking themselves the following question: “Are there any real work at home jobs that are not scams”? This stems from the fact that a simple internet search for “work from home” or “work at home” yields all sorts of results. Some of them are just flat out scams. Others, like affiliate marketing, multilevel marketing, and the such, are not made for everybody. And lastly, there’s a fundamental difference to be made between a work at home opportunity and a work at home job.

Examples like the aforementioned affiliate marketing or multilevel marketing are work at home opportunities. As such, they require some form of investment. Affiliate marketing business opportunities are typically free to join, but in order to be at least moderately successful at them, you will need to invest in tools, just like any other business. Multilevel Marketing requires a minimal fee to join, but also requires investment of both time and money in order to succeed.

Work at home jobs are different. First of all, a work from home job doesn’t require that you invest money. When was the last time you had to pay to apply for jobs? Secondly (and this is just like the “normal” jobs), there’s a very thorough selection process, which results in an acceptance rate that can be as low as 3%. Clearly, you won’t be hired just by filling out an application. Thirdly, you will most likely have to undergo training before you can really make serious money, and that means that at the beginning your earnings will be modest.

Truth is, there are real, scam-free ways to make money working from home, and one of the best ways to achieve that goal is through an at home call center job. If you’ve had to call any company’s customer service department, chances are that you have been re-routed to an overseas call center (most of the time in India). But due to the negative publicity garnered by this approach, and thanks to the Internet and better call-routing technology, more companies are outsourcing their order-taking, sales and problem-solving calls to home-based workers in North America.

Companies like LiveOps, Working Solutions, Alpine Access, and Arise handle incoming calls through their home-based agents. Those agents handle incoming calls, such as inquiries from shoppers buying products, orders from infomercials, and travel and health care products and services. Companies who request those services include 1-800-Flowers, J. Crew, Office Depot, ExpressJet, the Internal Revenue Service, and so on.

Another interesting option is JetBlue. Every single one of Jetblue’s (roughly 800) reservation agents works from home. Those hundreds of home based workers are the reservations system. There is no backup. “If you call 1-800-JetBlue you’re going to get someone in their home,” said Jet Blue’s CEO David Neeleman.

You will generally be required to pay for a background check. Many of those companies provide services where sensitive client information is handled by their agents, and they are concerned about hiring anyone who has been involved in previous criminal activity. You will also be required to get a dedicated phone line; using your home phone will not be an option. Typically, you will have to provide your own equipment.

Should you want join the work at home workforce, here are a couple of helpful suggestions:

Carefully evaluate offers. Will you be paid on salary or on commission? How often? What equipment (hardware/software) will you have to provide? What support will you get from the company?

Stay away from promises of overnight wealth or get rich quick claims from home. They will only enrich those who sell them.

Do not send money except for your background check! Legitimate employers don’t charge you to get started or for anything else.

Don’t send money for work at home directories or start-up kits. Free information and job listings are available online.

Be flexible - consider freelance work or projects as well as full-time employment. At least it will get you started.

When conducting work at home job searches on the Internet, be patient and be prepared to spend a lot of time weeding through scams and junk listings before getting to legitimate openings.

Phrases Not to Use for Finding Work at Home Jobs

Red Flags No Comments »
When people start considering working at home they will most likely start by looking on the internet by using search engines. This is a great way to find work at home positions, but only if you know the right phrases to use. There actually are some phrases not to use for finding work at home jobs.

If you’ve ever searched for anything on the major search engines, you know that using a keyword phrase will help narrow down the results to you get. The results will also be more targeted. Hopefully they’ll provide you with the information you need.

Most people will head over to their favorite search engine and type a phrase into the search box.

These are some phrases not to use: Work at home opportunity or work at home opportunities - Obviously you’re interested in work at home opportunities. If you have to use either of these phrases, additional information will improve your chances of finding what you want. Try children’s toys work at home opportunity if you would like to sell children’s toys.

Work from home job or work from home jobs - Again, the phrases are too generic. You’ll receive too many hits to find what you want. Daycare work from home jobs will be more targeted and will provide you with fewer results.

Work at home job or work at home jobs - This phrase is too similar to the above pair. You may actually end up receiving the results from the above phrases along with the ones for these phrases. Graphic artist work at home jobs will provide more specific results than you will get with phrases that are not targeted.

When you type these phrases in the search box, you’ll have well over a million hits to sort through to find the work at home job of your dreams. Do you have any idea how long it would take you to go through that many search results? Let’s just say it would take a long time.

You may find legitimate companies using the above keyword phrases, and they may even have success finding people. You don’t want to take a chance, though. You’ll do better finding what you’re looking for if you choose a more specific keyword phrase. Try some of these instead:

Virtual employee or virtual assistant positions - The word “virtual” is a much more targeted phrase when looking for online work. You can find companies that hire virtual employees or tell you how to become a virtual employee. If you can be even more specific in your search, your chances of finding what you want will increase dramatically.

Telecommuting or telecommuter - These words actually denote working from home without having to say so. They more aptly express the fact that you would like to work for a company but would like the opportunity to work out of your home, either full-time or part-time.

Freelance work or freelancer - These words also mean something specific. They usually refer to writers, artists, graphic artists, or something of that nature. People searching for freelance work do not want to work as employees, but want to be entirely independent.

Of course, the more specific you can be in your keyword search engine phrase, the better off you’ll be. If you are interested in freelance accounting jobs, use that keyword phrase. The phrases not to use for finding work at home jobs aren’t bad choices in and of themselves, they’re just not as effective as others you could use.

Working From Home - 5 Important Points To Consider Before You Decide

Main Content No Comments »
It is not unusual for many people employed at a regular job outside their homes to feel frustrated with several factors such as the bother of traveling daily to and from the workplace or the politics involved at work. If so, you must have considered the possibility of working from home.

You are not the only person who feels like this. Many dream of working from home. The point is, is it a dream that can come true? Or, more precisely, can it come true in your case?

1. The Real Picture of Working From Home

Many people, when they think of the concept of working from home, focus only on the attractive, comfortable aspects of it. It is true that working from home means working in the comfort of your own house in “down” clothes. But it is not as simple as that, and it is definitely not what it seems to be.

2. Challenges of Finding a Work-at-Home Opportunity

The hardest aspect of working from home is to find a genuine work-at-home opportunity or job. Many people quit their jobs believing that finding a work-at-home opportunity or job will be a simple affair. This is a very costly mistake to make.

The concept of working from home is rapidly gaining popularity. This means that the competition for work-at-home opportunities or jobs is quite high; so, it is relatively difficult to find a genuine work-at-home opportunity or job.

3. Limited Availability of Jobs

Due to the limited number of work-at-home jobs and opportunities and the high competition for them, it is advisable that you leave your current job if and, only if, you have a genine, steady, and well-paying work-at-home position. This will ensure your financial well-being in case you are not able to find a genuine work-at-home job that pays well.

The Internet offers you the excellent opportunity of researching and applying for work-at-home options at any time of day, even at weekends or in the evenings. You could also ask your present employer if you could do the same job from home. It depends on what your employer prefers and the nature of your work.

4. Becoming Your Own Boss

You can find a genuine work-at-home job or opportunity in any number of ways. At the same time, the option is not the best one for everybody.

Of the many points that you need to consider is whether it is possible for you to stick to a daily schedule and meet tough deadlines without the motivation of working in a group or under the supervision of a team leader.

It is true that working from the comfort of your home is a great option; however, you have to become your own master, and it will now become your sole responsibility to concentrate on the job. If you have too many distractions at home that are not in your control, it may not be the right option for you.

5. High Start-up Costs

Another important point to consider is the high start-up costs involved. These start-up costs depend on nature of the job you have in mind. For example, if you want to establish your own company, you will have to invest more toward start-up costs than if you simply work from home for another company.

Even if you are working from home for another company, you need to invest in equipment such as a computer, Internet, a phone, a photocopier, a scanner, and a fax machine. The best part of it is that you might already possess all these things in your house.

You might also consider the fact that most people working from home do not enjoy the benefits of childcare and medical insurance. Examination of all these factors will help you decide, once and for all, whether working from home is the right option for you.

Legitimate Work at Home Opportunity - 10 Step Checklist

Business No Comments »
Finding a work at home opportunity that meets your needs and pays well is tough enough, through in the additional requirement that is has to be a legitimate and you could be in a for a long search. Once you find a business that meets your check list, use the check list provided below to determine if its a legitimate work at home job.

1. Has the work at home job been in business for more than 6 years? If so, this is a good sign.

2. Has the company been featured in any magazines? You can get a lot of information about a company by reading about them. Also keep in mind that magazines don’t always give work at home jobs good reviews so be sure to read the article to see if the magazine thinks its a legitimate work at home opportunity.

3. Does the company have a physical address? If a company does not provide an address that you can physically visit, pass them by.

4. Are you offered regular wages? Most legitimate work at home opportunities offer competitive wages. You’re not paid an hourly wage but are paid by how long the project takes, the type of project or how many items you sell. If a company makes claims that you will earn a regular wage be wary. Online jobs offer the benefits of working at home they cant offer security.

5. Do you have to invest in inventory, training or equipment? If so, is the company willing to send you a sample? If the company denies your request to see a sample of the product it is probably not legitimate. Also how much is what your paying for actually worth. Obviously if the company charges an outrageous price its a hoax but also beware of companies that charge too low. This usually means that they want to get their hands in everyones pocket. Legitimate work at home opportunities only want to work with serious candidates.

6. Is experience necessary? Beware of opportunities that claim that anyone can be successful doing it. Any company that is legitimate will only want to work with the best. They’re not only going to hire just anyone. If the company states that you earn a large income having no experience chances are its a scam.

7. Who’s involved with the company? Who are their sponsors or endorsees? Who are the founders and co-founders? Does the company allow you to meet them?

8. What exactly does the job entail? If you see an ad that says, no selling, no P/C experience, no telephone calls to make, no answering emails, no prospecting or cold calls you’re probably walking into a scam. Most jobs, even offline, require you do at least one of the following. If the company will not give you a detailed explanation of what you will be doing it is not a legitimate work at home opportunity.

9. Do you have to pay for more information? No legitimate work at home opportunity is going to make you pay to find out about what the job is. If the ad or website says, send money to find out more walk away.

10. Can you talk to present employees to verify claims? Ask to speak to people (at least 4) in your area that are with the company and doing the job you’re applying for. If the company refuses it may not be legitimate. Once you do speak with the workers find out as much as you can about the job and the company. Workers that only have positive things to say are probably trying to recruit you into a pyramid scheme. There is no perfect job, so find out the good and the bad.

Use this checklist whenever you’re interested in applying or working with a work at home company. It will help you determine if it is a legitimate work at home opportunity.
