Phrases Not to Use for Finding Work at Home Jobs

Red Flags No Comments »
When people start considering working at home they will most likely start by looking on the internet by using search engines. This is a great way to find work at home positions, but only if you know the right phrases to use. There actually are some phrases not to use for finding work at home jobs.

If you’ve ever searched for anything on the major search engines, you know that using a keyword phrase will help narrow down the results to you get. The results will also be more targeted. Hopefully they’ll provide you with the information you need.

Most people will head over to their favorite search engine and type a phrase into the search box.

These are some phrases not to use: Work at home opportunity or work at home opportunities - Obviously you’re interested in work at home opportunities. If you have to use either of these phrases, additional information will improve your chances of finding what you want. Try children’s toys work at home opportunity if you would like to sell children’s toys.

Work from home job or work from home jobs - Again, the phrases are too generic. You’ll receive too many hits to find what you want. Daycare work from home jobs will be more targeted and will provide you with fewer results.

Work at home job or work at home jobs - This phrase is too similar to the above pair. You may actually end up receiving the results from the above phrases along with the ones for these phrases. Graphic artist work at home jobs will provide more specific results than you will get with phrases that are not targeted.

When you type these phrases in the search box, you’ll have well over a million hits to sort through to find the work at home job of your dreams. Do you have any idea how long it would take you to go through that many search results? Let’s just say it would take a long time.

You may find legitimate companies using the above keyword phrases, and they may even have success finding people. You don’t want to take a chance, though. You’ll do better finding what you’re looking for if you choose a more specific keyword phrase. Try some of these instead:

Virtual employee or virtual assistant positions - The word “virtual” is a much more targeted phrase when looking for online work. You can find companies that hire virtual employees or tell you how to become a virtual employee. If you can be even more specific in your search, your chances of finding what you want will increase dramatically.

Telecommuting or telecommuter - These words actually denote working from home without having to say so. They more aptly express the fact that you would like to work for a company but would like the opportunity to work out of your home, either full-time or part-time.

Freelance work or freelancer - These words also mean something specific. They usually refer to writers, artists, graphic artists, or something of that nature. People searching for freelance work do not want to work as employees, but want to be entirely independent.

Of course, the more specific you can be in your keyword search engine phrase, the better off you’ll be. If you are interested in freelance accounting jobs, use that keyword phrase. The phrases not to use for finding work at home jobs aren’t bad choices in and of themselves, they’re just not as effective as others you could use.

Telecommute: Work at Home Job of the Future

Restaurants No Comments »
Work at home jobs are all the rage today. Telecommuting has become more and more popular. With rising fuel cost and longer commutes to work, it has become more productive for some people to work from home. Companies large and small are discovering that some employees can be more productive when working from home.

You may be an employee that could benefit from a work at home Telecommute program. The first thing to do is find out if your present employer has a work at home program. You may want to do this in a quiet way that does not raise a bunch of red flags with company management.

If your company has Telecommute jobs then you need to head to the human resource department and apply. Before you apply try and find out which jobs are available. You want to study up on this position. It may require you to change positions. If so, you need to be ready for an interview process. This requires you to research and know what you are talking about. You want to ace the interview.

You may find that your current position can be done from home. You may have to convince your company that you can do the job from home. Do some research and be prepared for your work at home sales pitch to the boss. Have numbers and statistics about how more productive people are and how much money companies are saving. The bottom line for managers is how much money will they save, and how much more work you will be doing. They go gaga over these kinds of statistics.

A good telecommute job may just be the job you are currently performing, only from home. You should be prepared that if your effort fails, you’re standing with your company may be compromised. They may feel you are not happy and will look to leave. You should have a backup plan, in case your effort to convert your job to work at home fails.

Before you make your pitch to your current company, call around and see if there are companies in your area who have a work at home program. You will usually have to start work in the office for some time before you can work at home. You will then have the opportunity to switch to the work at home job. Be prepared for the time that this may take.

Here are a couple of ways to search for a good work at home job:

- Local search: Search your local companies. You should be prepared with data about the productivity of telecommute jobs before you approach a company. This can be worth your work because you will be working for a company that is in your local area. There are tremendous advantages in working with a local company. The least of which are accounting and pay issues.

- News and magazine search: Many companies advertise in print for work at home positions. Be careful with these. Check them out before you even contact them. Remember; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Once you have checked with the BBB and done some online research and they check out o.k. then contact them.

- Internet Search: This is probably the most popular way people look for telecommute or work at home jobs. It can be the most expensive if you do not pay attention to what you are doing. This is where the predators lurk, waiting for you. You must research every company and every offer thoroughly before you send anyone money. If they will not provide you information without you giving them a fee, then you know they are not legitimate. Be careful and you will be able to find a good job.

These are just a few of the ways to find a great work at home telecommute job. As always, be safe.

5 Tips for Working at Home Effectively

Career Management No Comments »
“http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/982/homeofficecropwq6.jpg” alt=”work-from-home” />

Working from home has become the new dream for millions of people.

Plugging away in cubicles away from home, people now daydream about having a home office, enjoying the flexibility of being able to work and play according to their own needs and schedules, and ditching their commute.

With more and more people now finding ways to work at home, the new challenge has become learning to separate work and family obligations effectively. Whether you are working in a flex-time arrangement with your employer or have started your own business, if you find yourself facing productivity or focus challenges, read on for some tips on managing the work at home environment.

Set guidelines: Being able to focus on work when your family or significant other is around is crucial, and you must create and communicate new guidelines for how you want things to be. The trick to having this be effective is to talk to your family (or even friends who tend to call frequently) about how this will benefit them. Put things in terms of what this will mean to them if they respect your privacy and need to focus on your work during certain hours. For instance, if your kids tend to run to you with every little question, interrupting your work frequently, explain to them that by allowing you to work in peace, they are helping you work towards the things they love and which have meaning for them - that new video game, for instance, or time spent together. Always use positive promises (“If I am able to work in silence for two hours I can then take you to the park - yay!”) rather than negative threats (“If you don’t stop yelling and running around you are NOT going to the park later!”).

Enlist help: Further to the previous point, you can enlist the co-operation of those around you in helping to keep the house in order while you work. Housework should not be solely the job of one person, and you are doing your part in creating co-operative, responsible people by insisting everyone do their part. Because you are at home, you may find your family expects more of you around the house, rather than less. Set your boundaries and ensure your worklife is respected, and do so by keeping open communication about what is expected of everyone.

Praise good behavior: Always try and catch people in ‘good’ behavior. When your kids play outside quietly, allowing you to work for two hours, praise them lavishly (not falsely), and reward them by spending some time with them. Kids can get jealous of work, especially when it’s done at home, so when you set aside reward time and spend it doing something they love - reading or playing games or doing homework together - you reinforce their good behaviour and help create responsible, respectful kids.

Block time out: It’s not always family and friends that get in the way of work-at-home focus. It can be difficult to leave messes, phone calls or personal to-do lists alone when evidence of them is everywhere around you. This is one challenge which trips up many people, and can be effectively dealt with by using good time management. Spend a little time each week or each evening on your business, as opposed to spending it all in your business. Make lists of both personal and work priorities, and create a schedule that will allow you to get both done in certain blocks of time. For instance, commit to working for three hours in the morning and then give yourself a two-hour personal block, in which you eat, answer personal calls and email and do a load of laundry.

Take breaks and treat yourself well: The opposite challenge to the point above is when people find it difficult to stop working. The line between work and home can get very blurred, especially if you have no separate work area in your home. To avoid burn-out and to ensure balance, you must be sure to give yourself regular breaks and to take time for personal pursuits, such as eating regularly, exercising, and getting fresh air, not to mention seeing friends and family and generally maintaining healthy social interaction. Remember that you wanted flexibility, not a new jail!

With these tips in mind, you can create a balanced and effective work-at-home environment that works for everyone involved and ensures you get the job done!
