The Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Jobs

The internet opens up a lot of opportunities for everyone. It is now possible to talk to a person half a world away without ever leaving your computer. We can access the internet from nearly anywhere and humanity is literally overloaded with information. The internet also allows individuals who want to make extra money during tough economic times, the ability to do so. When you are looking for online jobs that you can do for home, there are several advantages and disadvantages to the entire process. Knowing what they are can help ensure you get the online jobs you are looking for, without dealing with scams or fraudulent advertisements.

Advantages
There are many advantages to working online jobs, and here are a few:

1. There are plenty of online jobs out there. Whether you want to write articles, make cold calls, be a personal call center, or do data entry, there are plenty of jobs out there that you can apply for. Websites like www.workopolis.com, www.monster.com , www.guru.com and www.elance.com offer many opportunities from good employers who need some help on a per project basis typically.

2. You can work from home! That is a great advantage. You do not even have to get out of your pajamas when you do online jobs because your office is your home; your commute is from your bedroom to the office. Depending on what you are doing for online jobs, you can make your own hours as well. This allows people who do not fit into the nine to five atmosphere the chance to work hours that are more suited to them.

3. When you do online jobs, you typically work as a contractor which then gives you plenty of extra money. The reason for this is when you work for someone else; a lot of money comes off your pay check. While you still have to pay employment insurance and income tax, there are other taxes that are no longer taken off your pay, which gives you more net income that you can use to pay off your bills.

Disadvantages
Naturally, with all good things there are drawbacks. Here are some of the disadvantages to online jobs:

1. Scams can be quite common in certain types of online jobs. Data entry is one online job that often has scams associated with it. The problem with the internet is that it makes it hard to know what is real and what is fake. When you are offered a job, if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is. Be wary with your online jobs and only choose/apply for ones that you have been able to research. If they promise you big money with no experience, chances are you are not going to be paid for the work that you do.

2. There is a lot of competition with online jobs. In your local area, you are competing with a few thousand people for jobs. On the internet, you may be competing with one million people for online jobs. As a result, you need to be at the top of your game and the head of the pack to get noticed.

3. The pay can be lower than if you worked for a company in your local area. Sometimes the pay you receive will be lower than what you may think is fair. It could be because the company is located in another country, or because the company just wants to cut costs by hiring contracts with online jobs. Either way, sometimes you may have to do a bit of extra work to get the monthly income you were hoping for. You also do not get employee benefits with online jobs. You are a contractor, so there is no health plan for the companies you do online jobs for.

All in all, having an online job is a great experience that allows you to work from home, spend time with your family and set your own hours. Yes, there are drawbacks but by finding the right online jobs, you can find a career path that gives you more satisfaction than you ever thought possible.
